This is apparently a “question mark” butterfly. Up until just now, I’d planned on calling this post “Monarch”, but then I decided to have a second look at it and realized that it quite obviously is not a Monarch butterfly.

According to this page describing the species, I’ve captured a rare occurrence! “The Question Mark rarely feeds on flowers…”

    It may be prettier, but it would be so much more intriguing if it _had_ been feeding on animal droppings.

    Yeah, that tidbit of info sort of skewed my whole perception of the butterfly species. Graceful and beautiful sure, but shit-eaters?
