On Sunday afternoon, Steph and I decided to grab our cameras and venture out into Brooklin for a long-overdue photography excursion. We each caught a good bunch of decent shots, and this is one of 'em.
I couldn't resist this one. The light was right and she was looking oh-so-cute in the hoodie and backpack… Haha. Eventually I turned the lens on nature, though. You'll see.
More soon.

Excellent portrait! I've also noticed that you've figured out how to direct your subjects?
2 Aaron on Tue, Sep 30th 2008 12:02 pm
Haha. Thanks
And yeah, I tried a bit harder to direct this one. There are others (and they're coming) that required much more. This particular one is actually the first I shot and I think all I said was "stand over here where it's still sunny"… But the others have more direction. It'll show.
PS: The site title mentions "Dedicated" because I switched servers and wanted to know when the nameserver switch happened
It's on a dedicated box now. Much faster, more configurable, and far more reliable (so far).

Great. Did you strike a deal with Host Refugee, or have you move on to somewhere else?

I'm somewhere else now. PriorityColo, actually. But I still have HostRefugee and I still use the space for stuff. The dedicated box is mostly for clients and Offtone right now.

Well well well, I think this is my first comment ever, but I kinda just had to say something. This picture is so bad ass. However, I don’t have anything high tech picture like to say about it. I don’t pay enough attention in my photography class, so I couldn’t really say something smart… and compliment the picture at the same time.
Now, I only have two pet peeves about this picture, one of which was your doing, one of which… well… blame God.
First, I don’t particularly like how… pasty… white Steph looks, but I understand that this was the image you were going for. I don’t know, it just kind of… makes her look dead. Although it does bring out the intensity of her eyes (or eye, rather), something just… bugs me about it. No disrespect, don’t let it take away from the greatness of the picture.
Secondly, and this is where you can blame God, it would’ve just been so bad ass if the leaves beside her were like, alive and not dead. And like, dying leaves behind her! But then again, that’s a photoshoot and this is a walk through Brooklin.
Still a bad ass picture, I’m envious of your camera skills. I’ve decided to become an active commenter on Offtone.

Yeah, her pastiness is somewhat inevitable without crossing over to “photoshoot” territory and setting up some serious backlights; the sun caused this, and in order to properly expose (or at least somewhat expose) the rest of the scene, I had to sacrifice the details on the face. Then again, that’s something they do on purpose in photoshoots too; nothing hides wrinkles like long exposures
And yeah, the leaves are dead. But that’s autumn’s fault. That one leaf is green in the middle, and with a little imagination, you could say that it was slowly coming back to life… Maybe. Haha.
Either way, glad you liked it. You’ll find I don’t really think about my shots that much, though. It’s fun to try to achieve something pretty within the very short timeframe I usually have to frame things.
You’ll be my second active commentator (Tyler being the other
) He’ll tell you that the job requires very little work. Maybe a few minutes every two months. Haha.
I’ll try to post more…

I look so young here. But I love it
