Too Dangerous » Tue, Jul 4th 2006 10:52 pm
Alyson’s first game on Monday night was cut short due to weather conditions. Evidently the threat of lightning was just too great to allow the game to continue. We’ve all heard stories about lightning bolts traveling dozens of kilometers to their targets, even when said targets aren’t under the storm clouds from which they shot.
One of the coaches saw lightning in the distance, and despite the obvious signs that the storm was moving clear past us (and the entire city) he exploded on the umpire, demanding he call the game. Threatened with the prospect of losing a player to lightning strikes, the umpire had no choice to but to cancel it. The coach was satisfied that he’d done the right thing and was sure his actions had saved lives.
The girls then moved on, prematurely, to their second game which was located further into town and nearer to the storm. The game was played and nobody died. Alyson’s team won by at least 15 runs (considered a mercy, or as I liked to call it: pwnage) and I got some nice pictures. Here’s one.
