On the Off-Chance... » Wed, May 25th 2005 11:29 am

If it turns out there’s no God of any kind, I sure hope there’s at least someone in some brief afterlife to slap us all in the face. I love the idea of religion, but I seem to despise most religious people.

A lot of them are humble people, but others are just full of hatred for everyone who doesn’t agree with them. Religious fanatics twist words in the Bible to form arguments IN FAVOUR of laws that would let anyone and everyone have a firearm which they could use to “protect themselves” from someone who might be trying to kill them. Apparently (and this was actually said to me) there are exceptions to “Thou shalt not kill.” Seems like a fairly tightly-knit clause to me, but I guess since it’s out-dated English it’s open to interpretation? How are these people so blind to their actions? I’m not even saying that I agree with not killing people (but I do), it’s that there’s a LAW dictated by their GOD in the book they live their lives by, and they’re looking for loop-holes in it!

I tried confronting one of these gun fanatics with his hypocrisy and all he did was call me a moron and repeatedly ask for more proof to support my accusation. I just gave up. These people are lost causes. And they’re breeding.

God help us.

Hey! As a Christian myself, sometimes I agree with you… I also get fustrated when anyone tries to use something just to point out that they are right, and then when people contradict themselves and their beliefs it makes me think “What?! Are you nuts?”

In my opinion, I don’t think God wants us to be religious. Religion seems to me like a way of taking something God’s said and making it frickin’ complicated! I think God would rather have a relationship with people than have them gettin all religious.

Anyways, my advice would be… don’t write it off just because you’ve seen some ‘religious’ people you dont like smiling face

I’m just not sure there’s some kind of singular being that is conscious of every one of our thoughts and actions. I can imagine consciousness after death, but the idea of actually going to some place and being judged and sentenced (or rewarded) etc. seems too far-fetched. Not that it can’t possibly be true, but I think there are more feasible theories.
